In this video you will also see the kind of foolish paranoia that drug enforcement always presents whenever a state tries to legalize medical marijuana.  Peter Bensinger, former DEA Administrator warns that the bill allows people to use marijuana and immediately climb into the drivers seat.  He also warns that the Mexican drug cartels love it when states pass medical marijuana laws because they will come up to start dealing in these new markets.

The facts are that nobody should ever get behind the wheel if they are impaired.  Common sense dictates this.  But people are currently driving while under the influence of powerful prescription drugs and a simple warning on the bottle is all that is needed for existing medications – not more idiotic laws.  Many patients who must control their pain on a continual basis, yet must drive to go to work, testify that they feel significantly less impaired while driving when using marijuana to treat their pain than when using their prescription medications.  Some say they feel no impairment at all once their bodies adjusted to the cannabis.

The idea that Mexican drug cartels will move into states where people can legally buy safe marijuana from regulated dispensaries is pure nonsense and the DEA knows this.  In fact, as more states have legalized marijuana, either medically or recreationally, the cartels have moved away from marijuana and into cocaine and other harder drugs because the market is drying up.

Mexican cartels have lost an estimated 3 billion dollars from Colorado alone since medicinal marijuana was approved. The DOJ’s National Drug Intelligence Center, which has since been shut down, found in 2011 that the top cartels controlled the majority of drug trade in marijuana, heroin, and methamphetamine in over 1,000 US cities. New estimations suggest that cartels will lose over $7,000,000,000 a year due to the legalization of recreational marijuana. Surely organized crime via south of the border could come into play.

The Washington Post reported that pot farmers in the Sinaloa region have stopped planting due to a massive drop in wholesale prices, from $100 per kilo down to only $25. One farmer is quoted as saying: “It’s not worth it anymore. I wish the Americans would stop with this legalization.”

The logical solution to putting drug dealers out of business is to give people access to safe, legal cannabis for their medical needs.  Anyone who believes otherwise is simply wrong.
